Soccer or running; which activity to choose for maximum fitness?

Although recent research by scientists at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark has shown that the same time playing football produces greater muscle bulk and greater loss of fat than running, the work reinforces the general importance of exercise in improving blood pressure, insulin sensitivity and balance. Over 12 weeks soccer players lost 3.5 kilos of fat and developed 2.0 kilos of muscle whereas runners lost 2.0 kilos of fat and did not add any muscle bulk. This suggests that soccer should be considered as another form of exercise for ages other than the under thirties and recruited in the national campaign to overcome our obese and sedentary lifestyles. It may appeal to those for whom the gym is boring!
