Running is good for older people....hooray !

A study from California which followed runners for over 14 years, whose average age was 62yrs,  has shown that they experienced less musculoskeletal pain than a similar  group that did not run. Another study from Australia, also seems to confirm these findings, as it shows that  older women with low levels of physical activity suffer more stiff and painful joints than those who are more active.

The message is clear we all need to either continue  or even begin exercising into older age..... which is why Wadhurst physio Clare Roche ( age undeclared!) is still running marathons!

Even if you are a self confessed couch potato you can start to exercise whatever your age. Begin with walking , then slowly increase your pace. After a few weeks , if you are feeling comfortable with a brisk walk, intersperse it with a slow jog for a few paces, before returning to walking. Gradually increase the amount of jogging until you hardly need to walk at all.

If you would like to discuss returning to exercise or any issue that relates to this subject, please contact the clinic and Clare Roche would be happy to advise and see you as appropriate.
